A group of Leonia High School alumni met to form the Leonia High School Alumni Association March 18.

There was representation from classes as far back as 1940. Leonia High School opened in 1913.

Jared Meyer will be the Association’s president. Susan Shanno will serve as recording secretary. Georgette Diemer will be the treasurer.

Tricia Eickelberg and Julie Diemer organized the meeting. They said the foundation of an alumni organization will be an "excellent resource for juniors and seniors to gain insight on college and career choices.

"In addition to creating a network for high school students, having an active alumni association will bring old friends together and update alumni about activities at the high school."

At some point the Association would like to set up a scholarship for graduating seniors. The group also discussed the possibility of raising funds to help subsidize programs that are not covered under the Leonia High School budget.

Future Alumni Association meetings will be announced soon.
