The Edgewater Arts Council expects a good showing for its 17th annual Edgewater Arts and Music Festival Sept. 14.
With 52 artists participating last year, the festival has grown since its creation, Edgewater Arts Council President Neda Rose said.
"When it started we had three or four artists set up in Veterans Field," she said. "But we outgrew that because there wasn’t enough parking."
Rose estimated that more than 2,000 people attended last year’s festival.
"We have a painted glass artist coming from South Carolina," Rose said. "It’s going to be good."
Artists from Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey are expected to attend. Rose said one of the highlights will be a display brought by the daughter of Elizabeth Case, a deceased watercolor artist who worked for Disney Studios.
The festival opens with an antique car show in the Edgewater Commons parking lot. A bus will take people across to the Shadyside section of the borough on Old River Road. Contemporary and jazz music will be performed throughout the event.
The Edgewater Arts Council, a non-profit organization of volunteers, was created 17 years ago to broaden the awareness of visual and performing arts. It is funded by commercial and private sponsors, the Borough of Edgewater, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
Artists can sign up until no more space is available, but orders for tables will not be accepted after Aug. 30.
Artists who want to participate in the festival can call 201-699-0655 or e-mail jrose@nj.rr.com.
